FOR THE SENDER – Story Behind The Music

For the Sender: Four Letters. Twelve Songs. One Story, by singer-songwriter Alex Woodard, is a book, album, and concert event featuring Grammy-Winning, Platinum-Selling artists and a compelling human-interest story behind the music.

The book is a memoir about a struggling young musician whose life changed after the death of his beloved Labrador, the end of his record deal, and the serendipitous appearance of four letters in his life. The letters, from women sharing their intensely personal stories, became inspiration for Alex and his friends, pushing their creativity to capture the feelings and emotions emanating from the letter senders.

The CD features 12 heartfelt songs with folk, pop and rock leanings, as well as country and gospel elements. Woodard wrote and co-wrote the songs with Sean and Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, Switchfoot leader Jon Foreman, New Found Glory front man Jordan Pundik, legendary Eagles writer Jack Tempchin, and local San Diego powerhouses Nena Anderson and Molly Jensen. Long-time Wallflower and current Foo Fighter Rami Jaffe handled piano and keyboard. Proceeds from the project benefit social causes chosen by the letter senders – so it really is For the Sender.

ABOUT “MY LOVE WILL FIND YOU”

“My Love Will Find You” was inspired by a letter from Emily, who every year writes a letter to her soul mate that passed away one autumn. The grief, despair, hope and acceptance in her letter made a profound impact on Alex and taught him the lesson that would inspire For the Sender: Sometimes a letter is like a prayer, it’s more for the sender.
